Smokin' for Gold

Placerville, Ca

Oct 1 - 2nd, 2010

A national KCBS sanctioned event

We finish off the 2010 season with some good results from Placerville - we needed that after the dismal results for Clearlake - our previous bbq competition.

We scored an impressive 3rd place in ribs amongst 31 teams. Our brisket got ninth, not our best, but by no means our worst placing in brisket - the judges did not like our chicken or pork though.

And it was not without major adversity either. Our cooker named Noname pitched her racks not once, but twice on Saturday morning. I use some special trays for cooking chicken and ribs, and they snagged Nonames rotisserie workings - something that had not happened with these trays before.

Results out of 31 teams

  • Chicken -13th place
  • Ribs - 3rd place
  • Pork  - 23rd place
  • Brisket - 9th place
  • Overall - 6th place
  • Total contestants - 31

Not a bad showing - I'd hoped that Too Ashamed to Name BBQ could bust out into two or more 5th+ showings at a bbq competition, but it looks like that will have to wait for 2011 season.
